Stefan Schweigert was a pupil of Alfred Rinderspacher in Kaiserslautern and later studied with Klaus Thunemann at the Hanover Musikhochschule. He has appeared as a soloist with the Berliner Philharmoniker, but also with other ensembles including Camerata Bern.

Schweigert has worked on a number of occasions with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe and participated in Gidon Kremer’s chamber-music festival at Lockenhaus. He also plays in Sabine Meyer’s wind ensemble and with the Berlin Baroque Soloists. Schweigert has taught in the Berliner Philharmoniker’s Orchestra Academy since 1987.

He started his musical education at the Dokuz Eylul University State Conservatory Bassoon Department in the class of Sahap Ruhselman, in 1983. He received the Third Award at the “7th National Music Contest” in Istanbul. After his graduation, he became the member of the State Symphony Orchestra of Izmir, in 1989. He studied bassoon with Prof. Karl Otto Hartmann, and chamber music with Prof. Heinz Holliger and Prof Dieter Klöcker at Freiburg Music Hochschule (Germany), during his “aufbaustudium” (graduate) in 1992.

He played in Basel Sinfonietta, Schleswig-Holstein Festival Philharmonic Orchestra and Cologne Symphony Orchestra. In 1994, he returned back to State Symphony Orchestra of Izmir.

He gave lectures at the Dokuz Eylul University State Conservatory, in Chamber Music classes and trained a lot of bassoon players for the State Symphony Orchestra.

He played with several Symphony Orchestras and Chamber Music groups as soloist. In 2003, he held “reed manufacturing” master class in Leipzig Felix-Mendelssohn Music Academy, in 2006 “bassoon” master class in Manchester Royal College of Music and in 2008 master class in Stuttgart Music Academy.

Tolga Alpay is the member musician of Izmir Bassoon Quartet, Izmir Reed Instruments Quintet and also the Bassoon Group Chief at the State Symphony Orchestra of Izmir.
